How is love presented in sonnet 18?

In this essay I will be exploring how shakespeare pursues love in sonnet 18. shakespeare had different ways of writing but sonnets were a way for him to express different aspects of love.the reason why he wrote sonnets was because in his time of life it was a way of expressing your love,he also wrote his poems so that he could tell a story about love.

The reason that this particular love poem is so popular is because the images and ideas expressed are universal being head over heels in love.In the poem, the beloved becomes elevated to the level of god-like adoration. Nature’s beauty, (“buds of May”), can be altered by the elements, and even the sun in the sky can be ‘dimm’d,’ but the beauty of the beloved is more powerful and can never fade.

Shakespeare uses different language features to express young love.by using these language features shakespeare is able to open our minds to different points of view to love.a language feature that he uses repeatedly during sonnet 18 is natural imagery.natural imagery is used to express love as a thing of nature, which is shown when shakespeare uses this line “shall I compare thee to a summers day thou art more lovely and more temperate “. This example of natural imagery suggest that shakespeare is comparing the beauty of that person to a summers day but suddenly suggest the person is more lovely but yet more mild. also shakespeare uses another quotation to explain the person beauty,”but thy eternal summer shall not fade”.This quotation suggests that the person beauty will never  dissappear.shakespeare also uses the quotation  “and summers lease hath all to short a date”,this quotation connects to the first because it says summers lease has a short a date so he couldn’t compare his love for that person to a summers day because it can never last forever .These quotation affects the readers understanding of love  in a way that they start to fully understand the different ways love can be explained.a final quotation  to elaborate my idea is ” rough winds do shake the darling buds of may “,this line is a key example of young love because may is early summer so may represent the love which is young. Therefore shakespeare presents love in sonnet 18 by using different key  features to express love in different points of view, that no one could think of ,he also uses key terms to expand our minds past the text and information and straight into the writers point of view.

In conclusion, shakespeare presents love by using key terms for the reader to understand young love in different perpectives. He also uses language like hyperbole and natural imagery.in this essay I have explored different ways in which shakespeare presents young love.

being with with you was no game                                                                                                                         without you has always been a pain                                                                                                                      your beauty was like the morning sun

Which love?

In sonnet 18 Shakespeare uses the type of love that is young love. A quotation that backs up my explanation is ” shall I compare thee to a summers day.thou art more lovely and more temperate “. This quotation shows that Shakespeare does not want to compare his love for the person  he was writing about to one day of summer.in sonnet 73 Shakespeare uses the type of love that is old love that will always be there.a quotation to back up my explanation is “when yellow leaves, or none, or few, do hang ” and as the death bed whereon it must expire”.The first quotation suggest that the love the love that they had was old(because when yellow  leaves or none hang the tree is going to die,)in this quotation the tree represent  the love.in the second  quotation Shakespeare uses word that refer to death which gives us a sense that the love is going to die.
